Open Programming – What to Expect

One of the draws of the Open, at least for me anyways, is the fact that it is a test of the “unknown and the unknowable”. Not even your Coaches know the workout before it is announced on Thursday night. While the mysterious nature of the Open workouts is an exhilarating highlight of the competition, it throws a monkey wrench in our weekly workout planning. Fortunately, over the years we have developed a specific template to guide our programming during the five weeks of the Open.

Staying Fit in Summer

Summer is always a busy time of the year. With social events vacations, and the kids out of school, finding time to focus on your health can be daunting. And the plethora of food and drinks accompanying patio season only serve to make matters more dire. Lucky for you, there is always a way to get a workout in if you’re willing to commit to it! Check out Coach MaryBeth's tips for staying active this summer.

Returning from Injury

In life there are risks that we take everyday and sometimes those risks result in injury. As an athlete, injuries are important to acknowledge when training. Why? So that pain and damage don’t get worse! It can be tricky to navigate how to proceed after you know that some element of your body feels off. Your CrossFit affiliate can continue to be the place for you to go when recovering from injury, but keep in mind that this situation requires communication with your Coaches and patience with yourself.

Handstand Foundations Workshops

Want to move like a gymnast? Join Strongnastics Coach Jenn Lymburner for a 90-minute gymnastics workshop focused on handstands! Perfect for athletes of ALL levels, this workshop will introduce important mobility, strength and technique drills to get you comfortable upside down. Although focused on the foundations of balancing (beginner/intermediate), the session will touch on drills for handstand push ups and walking as well.

As we tackle the next five weeks as a community, we want to find out what pushed you to sign up for the Open this year. Every person has a different reason and motivation, and it's a really neat opportunity for the Tidal community to see what that is (if you're comfortable sharing, of course)! It might even provide some motivation for next year for individuals not quite ready to join in the fun this season.

Workout Posting: Every Day vs. Weekly?

Starting this past week we have switched to a new logging and programming platform, SugarWod. We have received a lot of great feedback about the app itself, and we feel very positive about its functionality and look being a big step up from TrainHeroic. However, the most common questions and concerns we've received have been around the change from weekly posting to nightly, so I wanted to explain the logic behind this decision.
